Pioneers Top Western Oregon, 70-59

PORTLAND - The Lewis & Clark College Pioneer women's basketball team defeated the Division II Western Oregon Wolves 70-59 Tuesday evening at the Pamplin Sports Center.

Crystal Castle had her first double-double of the season with 18 points and 10 rebounds.

The Pioneers started the game on a 7-0 run.

The Wolves pulled within three, 7-4, on a layup by Leada Berkey, the closest Western Oregon would get in the game.

The Pioneers built the lead to 14 on a pair of Carrie Centlivre freethrows with 30 seconds left in the first half, and took a 33-20 advantage into the locker room at the half.

The Pioneers took a commanding 27-point lead with 11 minutes left in the game on a jump shot by Allison Farr.

The Wolves chipped away at the lead in the final ten minutes of the game, hitting six three-pointers in the second half, but fell 70-59 to the Pioneers.

Castle was 6-11 from the field and 6-6 from the line. She also had seven assists and three steals.

Carrie Centlivre had eight points and eight rebounds with four assists and four steals.

The Wolves Leada Berkey scored 22 points and grabbed 15 rebounds with three assists and two steals.

With the win, the Pioneers pull even at 4-4 on the season. Western Oregon falls to 1-6.

Western Oregon will next play at Corban on Friday, start time is 7:30 PM.
