Beavers Finish Third, Vaulters Post Season-Best

STANFORD, Calif. - The 15th-ranked Oregon State gymnastics team struggled at Stanford finishing third at the Cardinal’s Breast Cancer Awareness meet.

OSU scored a season-high on vault in the final rotation but the damage was done in prior rotations.

“We were almost trying too hard tonight,” said head coach Tanya Chaplin.

“I told the team after floor that we could start now or we could wait until next week. They did a nice job to come back and finish on vault.”

The Beavers, who had to count two falls on beam and another on the floor exercise, finished strong with the vault reaching the 49-point barrier for the first time this season.

The Beavers were led by Mandi Rodriguez with a 9.900 and a career-high, 9.800, by Brooke Barclay and a return to the lineup by Yuki Lamb, who tallied a 9.850.

During the Beavers’ first routine on floor, junior, Claire Pierce fell following her third tumbling pass and was unable to finish the routine due to a knee injury.

Pierce will be evaluated upon the Beavers return to Corvallis.

The Beavers return to Gill Coliseum next week to challenge No. 7 UCLA Friday at 7:00 PM.
