Corban Women Pound Warner Pacific, 86-69

PORTLAND - Seniors Jessi Norton and Tosha Wilson combined to score 46 points, as Corban's women's basketball team extended its winning streak to six games thanks to an 86-69 victory over the Knights of Warner Pacific on Saturday.

Norton led all players with 26 points on 9-for-14 shooting from the field, while Wilson turn in an all-around game with 20 points on a perfect 7-for-7 shooting from the field to go along with 7 rebounds, a game-high 7 assists, and a game-high 5 steals in 39 minutes of action.

The visiting Warriors came out of the locker room and for the second night in a row shot over fifty percent (18-for-35 -- 51.4%) from the field, but could only muster a 42-42 tie with host Knights heading back into the locker room.

Warner Pacific opened the game shooting 16-for-35 (45.7%) from the field, but had an advantage at the free throw line as the Knights made five free throws compared to Corban lone bucket from the charity stripe.

In the second half, Corban continued its hot shooting from the field as the visiting Warriors made 12-of-24 (50.0%) shots.

Meanwhile, the Warriors made up the difference at the free throw line thanks to a 14-for-16 (87.5%) performance over the final twenty minutes compared to Warner Pacific's 2-for-3 (66.7%) performance at the charity stripe.

Along with Norton and Wilson's point totals, fellow seniors Brianne Carras and Kendall Dionne added 16 and 10 points respectively.

On the other hand, junior Jessica Steigleman had her streak of 17 straight games scoring 10-or-more points snapped when the guard/forward combo player tallied a mere 8 points on 3-for-9 shooting from the field.

Corban's starting five accounted for 80 of the Warriors' 84 points, while freshman Hillary Sell and junior Mandy Peterson each scored two points off the bench.

On the glass, Carras led the Warriors with a game-high 8 rebounds, while Wilson, Norton, and a pair of Warriors -- Dionne and Steigleman -- grabbed 7, 5, and 4 boards respectively.

As a team, Corban shot 30-for-59 (50.8%) from the field, including 11-for-21 (52.4%) from beyond the 3-point line.

Meanwhile, Warner Pacific shot 28-for-65 (43.1%) from the field, including 6-for-16 (37.5%) from beyond the arc.

The two teams combined to shoot 22-for-37 (59.5%) from the free throw line, as Corban made 15 shots and Warner Pacific canned 7 shots from the charity stripe.

Warner Pacific was led by Nicole Brown's game-high 26 points, while Lindsay Wells and Jessica Mendezona added 13 and 9 points respectively.

Bethany Baumann led the Knights with 7 rebounds, while Megan Ainsworth and a pair of Knights -- Sally Brown and Nicole Brown -- pulled down 5 and 4 boards respectively.

With its sixth straight win, Corban improves to 22-6 overall, 13-3 in Cascade Collegiate Conference action.

On the other hand, Warner Pacific drops to 10-17 overall, 5-11 in CCC play.

The Warriors will return home on Friday, February 16th, when they host Oregon Institute of Technology beginning at 5:30 PM to kick off the final regular season weekend of the season inside the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center.

This will be the final home weekend of the regular season for fifth-year head coach Dave Bale at the helm of the Warriors.
