Salem-News.com SPORTS

TIGARD - The Willamette University baseball team scored four runs in the top of the first inning and held a 5-2 lead over Lewis & Clark College after an inning and a half on Sunday at Tigard High School, but the Bearcats will have to wait more than two months before they can close out the game, as weather forced the contest to be suspended in the middle of the seventh inning.

Willamette was leading 5-3 when the game was suspended.

The teams will complete the suspended game on April 24th at Volcanoes Stadium in Keizer, prior to the start of a previously scheduled 9-inning game.

Stats from today's partially-completed game will not be official until the contest is completed.

Sean Anderson was leading Willamette with three hits, including two doubles, in four at bats.

Anderson scored one run and drove in two more for the Bearcats. WU held a 7-3 advantage in hits, but Lewis & Clark's T.J. Witkowski hit the game's only home run before the action was suspended.

The Bearcats remain 1-2 on the season and 0-2 in the NWC, while the Pioneers hold at 2-0 overall and 2-0 in the NWC.

Willamette will return to action next weekend with the three games in California.

The Bearcats will take on Pomona-Pitzer in a doubleheader on Saturday, Feb. 17th at 11:00 AM, before playing one game against Cal State-San Marcos on Sunday, Feb. 18th at noon.

Willamette will play three more games in California the following week, with a doubleheader at Cal State-East Bay on Saturday, Feb. 24rh at 11:00 AM and a single game at CSU-East Bay on Sunday, Feb. 25th at noon.

WU's next home games are set for Saturday, Mar. 3rd in a doubleheader against George Fox University at Roy "Spec" Keene Stadium at 11:00 AM.
