NBA News: Bargnani, Roy Named T-Moblie Rookies of The Month

Other nominees for the Eastern and Western Conference T-Mobile Rookies of the Month were Minnesota’s Randy Foye, Charlotte’s Adam Morrison, and New Jersey’s Marcus Williams.

NEW YORK - Toronto Raptor’s Andrea Bargnani and the Portland Trail Blazers’ Brandon Roy Thursday were named the Eastern and Western Conference T-Mobile Rookies of the Month, respectively, for January.

Bargnani, selected first overall in the 2006 NBA draft, has averaged 11.1 points and 3.6 rebounds for the month of January.

He has also led the team in scoring off the bench six times and reached double-digits in points 10 times.

Bargnani is ranked third among rookies in points (10.2) as well as free throw percentage (.837).

He is also ranked fourth in minutes (23.2) and blocks (0.89) and ninth in rebounds (3.7).

Roy, who landed in Portland after a trade from Minnesota (via Boston) in June, led all rookies in scoring (16.6 ppg), steals (1.69 spg) and minutes (34.4 mpg) in January.

He tied for second in assists (3.4 apg) and placed third in rebounds (4.8 rpg).

Roy posted a season-high 28 points and added nine rebounds, two assists and two steals in a 99-95 win over Milwaukee on Jan. 21st and notched 25 points and eight assists in a 100-91 win over Denver on Jan. 31st.

Jan. 9th at New Jersey: Scored 22 points and grabbed 3 rebounds in the 101-86 loss to the Nets.

Jan. 12th vs. Boston: Tallied 10 points, seven rebounds, three assists and 2 blocks in the 90-77 win against the Celtics.

Jan. 21st vs. Charlotte: Registered 14 points, three rebounds and one block in the 105-84 win against the Bobcats.

Jan. 31st vs. Washington: Recorded 14 points, three rebounds and one block and also added 4 assists in the 119-109 win against the Wizards.

Brandon Roy, Portland Trail Blazers

Jan. 6th at Sacramento: Scored 23 points and added five rebounds in 110-105 win over the Kings.

Jan. 17th vs. Cleveland: Tallied 19 points 10 rebounds, six steals and four assists in 94-76 win over the Cavaliers.

Jan. 21st vs. Milwaukee: Recorded career-high 28 points to go with nine rebounds, two assists and two steals in 99-95 win over the Bucks.

Jan. 31st vs. Denver: Registered 25 points, eight assists and four rebounds in 100-91 win over the Nuggets.
