EUGENE - The No. 45-ranked University of Oregon women’s team and senior Kim McCready were honored Tuesday as the Golfweek Magazine National Team and Player of the Week after their respective wins in the Baja Classic, held at the Bajamar Resort in Ensenada, Mexico, Feb. 5th-6th. The Ducks won by four strokes (298-311-609) over No. 44 Louisville (second, 305-308-613), while No. 38 Birmingham Southern (313-307-620) and No. 66 Colorado (298-322-620) tied for third place in the 15-team field. McCready also proved victorious individually in the par 72, 36-hole event by a five-stroke margin (75-70-145). The Placerville, Calif., native has led UO in six of her last nine rounds, including a school record 4-under 67 to cap the fall in the Stanford Intercollegiate last October. The Ducks also had another top-15 finisher in freshman Felicia Eastick (15th, 76-78-154) and three other top-35 finishers – freshman Kate Hildahl (29th, 77-80-157), sophomore Cathryn Bristow (35th, 81-78-159) and junior Victoria Wenslow (35th, 75-84-159). McCready is the top-ranked Duck in the current Golfweek rankings at 102nd nationally with her 74.16 rating, and Bristow followed at 174th (75.12). Next up, the Ducks look forward to their next competition in two weeks – the Fresno State Invitational, Mon.-Tue., Feb 26th- 27th at Copper River Country Club in Fresno, Calif. In last year’s event, UO finished eighth (302-305-607), and featured a sixth-place finish by junior Victoria Wenslow (72-74-146). Other Duck returnees that played in the event last year include Bristow (53rd, 77-77-154) and redshirt senior Therese Wenslow (75th, 82-78-160).
