CORVALLIS - Defending national champion Oregon State will step onto a major league stage when the Beavers play the first game of their Pac-10 baseball series against Washington at Safeco Field on May 4th.

The game in the home ballpark of the Seattle Mariners will begin at 7:30 PM and will be televised live on FSN, it was announced Tuesday.

“This is a great opportunity for our players to compete in one of the very finest baseball facilities in the world,” OSU head coach Pat Casey said.

“It’s an experience they’ll remember for a long, long time and we’re happy to be able to play at Safeco Field.”

“The Mariners enthusiastically welcome the Huskies and Pac-10 baseball to Safeco Field,” said Chuck Armstrong, Seattle Mariners president and chief operating officer.

“Making the ballpark available for this game is exactly the type of community use that was envisioned from the ballpark’s beginning.”

The game will be the Beavers’ first in a Major League Baseball park since 1999, when they visited Minnesota for a three-game series at the Metrodome, home of the Minnesota Twins.

OSU played Washington in the Kingdome – the Mariners’ former home – in a 1993 series.

After the game, kids age 12 and under will be allowed to take a lap around the bases.

OSU’s series at Washington also includes games at UW’s on-campus Husky Ballpark on Saturday, May 5th at 2:00 PM and Sunday, May 6th at 1:00 PM.

Tickets for the May 4th game went on sale Tuesday morning at the Husky Ticket Office and will go on sale March 3rd at the Mariners box office at Safeco Field.

The Mariners box office is open from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM every day and the Husky Ticket Office is open from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM each weekday.

Tickets will also be available online at gohuskies.com. General admission tickets are $5 apiece for adults and $3 for children and seniors.

Group ticket and family plans are also available.

Call the Husky Ticket office at (206) 543-2200 for more information.

The game will air live on FSN in the Northwest, following the telecast of the Mariners’ game vs. New York that evening from Yankee Stadium.
