Ensenada, Mexico - The Portland State women's golf team rallied from a poor opening round to finish a solid fourth at the season-opening Baja Invitational.

The Vikings battled cold, windy conditions to shoot 338-319-325=982 as a team in the 54-hole event Monday and Tuesday.

The Vikings fourth-place finish among 13 teams was their best of the 2006-07 season. PSU also played five tournaments last fall.

Toledo won the event, shooting 315-321-311=947, at the par 72, 6,094-yard Bajamar Oceanfront Resort Course.

Sophomore Kayla Morinaga and freshman Justine Hix tied for sixth place individually for the Vikings with 54-hole totals of 239. Morinaga's best round was a 76 in the second round, while Hix shot a 76 in the third round.

Tammy Cleland of Toledo and Catherine Fortin of Eastern Michigan tied for medalist honors with two-day totals of 230.

Freshman Hannah Bews placed 23rd among 71 golfers with a total of 248. Senior Ashley Anast shot 259, placing 45th. Freshman Danielle Ranallo tied for 52nd with a 267 score.

The Baja Invitational was the first of five spring tournaments for Portland State leading up to the Big Sky Conference Championship on Apr. 16th-18th.

The Vikings compete next at the Red Rocks Invitational, Mar. 3rd-4th, in Sedona, AZ
