CORVALLIS - The Oregon State men’s basketball team (10-16, 2-11 Pac-10), coming off a sweep of the season series against Arizona State, travels to Northern California this weekend for games at Stanford and California.

A win at Stanford would end a long drought at Maples Pavilion.

A win at California would give the Beavers two in a row in Berkeley.

GAME #27 — Thursday at Maples Pavilion: Oregon State at Stanford (15-8, 7-5 Pac-10) at 7:30 PM

GAME #28 — Saturday at Haas Pavilion: Oregon State at California (12-12, 4-8 Pac-10, hosts Oregon on Thursday) at 3:00 PM

ON TELEVISION

Both the Stanford and California games will be televised regionally by FSN.

Steve Physioc and Marques Johnson are the announcers for the first game and Barry Tompkins and Dan Belluomini will handle the second game.

ON THE RADIO

Oregon State’s games can be heard live on the radio on the Beaver Sports Network including KEX 1190 AM in Portland/Salem and KEJO 1240 in Corvallis/Albany.

STANFORD SERIES

The Beavers lead the all-time series with the Cardinal, 66-55.

However, Stanford has won 14 of the last 15 games. The only OSU win during that stretch was at home in 2004-05.

OSU has lost 13 straight at Maples Pavilion, last winning there in 1992-93.

LAST GAME VS. STANFORD

Back on Jan. 20th a strong effort for most of the game wasn’t enough as OSU fell to Stanford, 67-56, at Gill Coliseum.

The Beavers took a 34-29 lead at halftime (the first time in seven Pac-10 games that OSU led at the half) and still had a five-point lead at 48-43 with under nine minutes to play.

It all went south from there, as the Cardinal heated up and went on a 9-0 run to regain the lead, while the Beavers went eight minutes without a field goal.

The Beavers had an excellent game on the turnover front, forcing 18 while committing only seven (the team’s fewest in about two years).

But Stanford shot 55.3% from the field while OSU was at just 37.7%.

Marcel Jones led the Beavers with 20 points and added seven steals, one shy of the school record. Sasa Cuic missed the game with an elbow injury and Wesley Washington was limited by a wrist injury.

CALIFORNIA SERIES

The Golden Bears lead the all-time series, 70-57. The schools have split the last four meetings, but prior to that Cal had won 14 straight games in the series. Last season, the Beavers beat the Golden Bears in Berkeley, 72-64, for their first win there since 1997-98. OSU will be looking to win two consecutive road games against Cal for the first time since victories in 1989 and 1990.

LAST GAME VS. CALIFORNIA

Back on Jan. 18th OSU played well in a 77-74 loss to California at Gill Coliseum, but shot itself in the foot with its free throw shooting.

OSU was just 12-for-22 (54.5%) compared to Cal’s 17-for-20 (85.0%). Other than a 52-52 tie with less than nine minutes left, the Golden Bears led the entire second half.

OSU had a chance to tie the game on its final possession when Jack McGillis’ three-point attempt went in, but he shot it just after the buzzer sounded.

Marcel Jones had an outstanding game with 29 points (21 in the second half, including 13 in a row down the stretch).

LAST GAME

The Beavers ended their seven-game losing streak and swept Arizona State for the first time since 1991-92 in a 59-55 victory at Gill Coliseum on Saturday.

Sasa Cuic led all scorers with 22 points while Wesley Washington added 13. It was a close game throughout.

OSU’s largest lead was nine points at 32-23 late in the first half.

ASU rallied to take a couple of small second-half leads, last at 50-49 with under eight minutes to go.

A jumper by Washington with 7:20 to play gave OSU the lead for good and started a 7-0 run.

The Beavers made just 41.9% of their field goal attempts but hit seven three-pointers and made 72.7% of their free throws.

RANKED OPPONENTS

The Beavers are trying to beat a ranked opponent for the fourth consecutive year.

So far, however, it’s been difficult and OSU is 0-8 against ranked teams. At home this season, OSU has lost to #24 Nevada, #12 LSU (the last time OSU hosted two ranked non-conference opponents in one season was 1957-58), #20 Oregon (the last time OSU played three ranked opponents before the end of December was 1977-78), #1 UCLA (OSU fell to 2-26 all-time against top-ranked teams) and #24 Arizona. On the road, the Beavers have lost at #10 Arizona (their 25th straight loss in Tucson), #20 Washington State and #5 UCLA.
