PHOENIX, Ariz. - Western Oregon struck first for an early lead but UC San Diego rallied back to take a 3-1 softball win at the Triple Crown Division II Lead-Off Classic in Phoenix on Friday morning.

The Wolves, now 0-3 at the tournament and on the season, will play in the Bronze Bracket for the next two days.

Their next game is anticipated to be sometime this evening.

WOU scored in the top half of the first inning, when Tyler Sutherland singled, stole second and scored on Amanda Fleer’s double.

But that would be the extent of the Wolves’ scoring in the contest, despite pounding out seven hits.

Sutherland and Trina Dorn would have two hits each for WOU.

Christina Cooke took the loss, allowing three earned runs and eight hits. She fanned two and walked two.

UC San Diego improved to 6-5 with the win.
