LAS VEGAS - The No. 7 ranked Oregon State softball team split a pair of games in Friday’s action at the UNLV Louisville Slugger Desert Classic.

The Beavers dropped a 2-1 9-inning decision to Brigham Young University before knocking off Cal Poly by a 7-5 margin in the night-cap.

OSU (4-2) pounded a season-high 13 hits against Cal Poly (3-2), with eight different players getting in on the action.

“Defensively we played solid in the second game,” said OSU head coach Kirk Walker. “Offensively there was a big difference in the Cal Poly game because we got runners on base and were able to put pressure on their defense.”

Junior outfielder Cambria Miranda led the way for the Beavers from the plate with a 3-for-4 effort, including her 22nd career home run and a double.

Freshman Alana Ford went 2-for-4 from the plate with a double, while designated player Lisa Hill as 2-for-3 with a run scored.

Senior third baseman Sherina Galvan also picked up a pair of hits, including a two-run home run in the top of the fifth.

“We had solid offensive production for seven innings and that made the difference for us against a very good team,” said Walker.

Senior pitcher Brianne McGowan (3-1) struck out four batters en route to the complete game victory.

Earlier in the day, the Beavers struggled at the plate against BYU (6-1).

Galvan went 2-for-3 in the contest and senior Mia Longfellow’s RBI single in the bottom of the fifth plated freshman Dani Chisholm for OSU’s lone run.

Ta'Tyana McElroy (1-1) struck out eight batters while pitching all nine innings.

Oregon State wraps up tournament play on Saturday with two more games.

OSU will face Wright State at 9:00 AM and then meet Cal State Northridge at noon.
