LACEY, Wash. - Saint Martin’s controlled the backboards and raced to a season-high 94 points in claiming a 94-75 women’s basketball win over Western Oregon on Saturday night at the SMU Pavilion.

The victory gives the Saints back-to-back wins for the first time this season, and also gives them revenge over WOU, who won the first match-up between the two teams last month.

SMU is now 7-16 on the season and 3-9 in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference.

Western Oregon dropped its sixth consecutive game to fall to 3-20 on the season and to 2-10 in league play.

SMU out-rebounded WOU 51-24, including a 27-10 edge on the offensive end.

Western Oregon hit 12 of 24 three-point attempts to stay within striking distance most of the game, but the rebound edge and 19 more points at the free throw line were too much to overcome.

Kassie Ludeman came off the bench to score 18 points for the Saints, 16 of those in the first half.

She missed only one shot from the field and also pulled down six rebounds.

Amber Harmon joined her in double figures with 14 points, while Sade Smith had 13 and Krissy Bassett had 10.

Leada Berkey had 21 points to lead the Wolves, scoring 16 of those in the second half.

Kori Seymour had 15 for the visitors, 12 of those in the first 10 minutes of play.

Claire Carpenter had 12 points, hitting four of six three-point attempts.

Saint Martin’s went on an 11-1 run towards the end of the first half to take 48-31 lead into the locker room at the break.

The Saints out-rebounded the Wolves 29-13 in the first half, and had 14 boards on the offensive end of the court.

Ludeman came off the bench for 16 points before intermission, hitting six of seven shots.

She also had five rebounds in the first 20 minutes of play.

Western Oregon will continue life on the road, playing at Seattle Pacific on Thursday and Central Washington next Saturday.

The Wolves play six of their seven games in the month of February on the road.
