SALEM - By: Mark Gilman FullAccessSports.com Championship Saturday at the OSAA State Wrestling championships produced two individual champions from the Central Valley Conference. Plenty of other hardware was also brought home by numerous CVC grapplers taking part in the 6A tournament at the State Fairgrounds Pavilion in Salem. Sprague's RJ Pena, the number one seed in the 125 pound division, and the top ranked competitor in his class nationally, was never threatened as he bested conference rival Tanner Robertson of Redmond 14-3 in the title match. For Pena, a sophomore, it is his second championship in as many years for the Olympians. Redmond's Austin Enoch brought home his third state title Saturday. The 140 pound senior was in control the entire championship match against senior Brandon LaDick of West Linn, posting a 6-2 victory. Sprague sophomore Alex Kostenborder had to settle for second place in the 103 pound division. Freshman Tommy Siciliano of Newberg bested Kostenborder 6-3 to take home the championship for the Tigers. Redmond's Butch Whitaker also ended the tournament as a runner up. Whitaker entered the championship as the number one seed at 171 pounds, but lost to senior Tanner Marval of Grants Pass 8-2. Other individual trophies involving CVC wrestlers: Redmond's Sean Soliz took 4th place in the 103 pound division after losing in the third place match to Marcus Morris of David Douglas West Salem freshman Blake Borsberry finished in sixth place in the 112 pound division, losing his final match to Tualatin's Walter Brice. Bryce Whitehead of Sprague finished in sixth place as well at 119 pounds, losing to Alex Rojas of Gresham The CVC brought home sixth and seventh place in the 140 pound division to go with Enoch's title. McNary's Andi Hari defeated Redmond's Josh Klein 6-5 in the sixth place match. West Salem's Eric Chandler finished in fourth place 1t 145 pounds after losing the third place match to Gresham's Jake Young. Fellow Titan Alex Ellison had to settle for sixth place afer being pinned by John Bartlett of West Linn in his consolation match on Saturday. Redmond's Tanner Hase finished in fourth place at 160 pounds after losing to Oregon City senior Andrew Marshall. Sprague's Mark Cinquini finished in seventh place in the same division with a pin of Wilson's Trevor Beltz. North Salem's Kyle Cox, out all of last year with an injured right arm, brought home the 5th place medal at 171 pounds with his victory over Michael McRae of Southridge. Redmond's Taylor Johnson also placed fifth in the 189 pound division, picking up the prize after a forfeit by his scheduled opponent in the consolation matchup Saturday. McKay's Deontay Marin was also a fifth place winner. He took home the medal in the 285 pound division with a 2-0 shutout of Jared Carr of Oregon City. In the 6A team competition, Roseburg took home the team title with 190 points, followed by West Linn (171.5) and Redmond (170.5). Sprague was ninth, West Salem fourteenth, North Salem eighteenth, McKay twenty-fourth, and McNary thirty-second in the 40 team field.
