CORVALLIS - Oregon State University assistant head football coach Bruce Read has resigned his post to accept the special teams coaching position with the Dallas Cowboys.

The 44-year-old Read served as OSU’s special teams coordinator during the 1997 and ’98 seasons and then again from 2004 through the 2006 seasons.

He is credited with assisting the program’s improvement in all special teams areas and developing some of the program’s best ever-kickers and returners, including current All-Americans Alexis Serna (PK) and Sammie Stroughter (PR), and former standouts Jose Cortez (PK), Tim Alexander (KR) and Sam Paulescu (P).

“Bruce did a great job at Oregon State and we wish him the best of luck with his new venture,” Beaver head coach Mike Riley said.

Read came to Oregon State prior to the ’04 season after two years as the special teams coach with the New York Giants.

From 1999-2001 he was on Riley’s San Diego Chargers’ staff as the special teams coach.

He also was on the staff at the University of Montana from 1985-96.

Riley will start a search for Read’s replacement in the near future.

Oregon State opens the 15-day spring practice session April 2nd.

Fans are reminded it’s time to renew or purchase new season tickets for the exciting six-game home schedule that includes dates with UCLA, Utah and Washington.
