SALEM - The Willamette University Bearcats will start their season earlier than originally expected, as the team has added a season-opening game against cross-town rival Corban College on Saturday at noon.

Willamette and the Warriors will play a single nine-inning game at WU’s John Lewis Field, in a battle for bragging rights in Salem.

The addition of Saturday’s game gives the Bearcats a total of 17 home games on their 39-game schedule.

WU’s schedule also includes six games in California between Feb. 17th and Feb. 25th.

Admission to Willamette home games is free at John Lewis Field and the public is invited to attend.

Willamette’s original schedule started with a double-header against Northwest Conference foe Lewis & Clark College on Saturday, Feb. 10th at Tigard High School in Tigard.

The L&C double-header, plus another game against the Pioneers on Sunday, Feb. 11th, will be played as scheduled.

The Bearcats will take on Corban three more times this season, on April 3rd at Corban (4:00 PM), on April 17th at Willamette (4:00 PM) and on April 25th at Volcanoes Stadium in Keizer, Ore. (6:00 PM).

Corban will be the home team at Volcanoes Stadium, giving each squad two home games and two roads games in the local rivalry.
