Feb-24-2007 21:14Home Run Lifts Oklahoma past Oregon State, 4-1Salem-News.com SPORTSNatalie Johnson went 2-4 to lead OSU.
CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. - Senior third baseman Sherina Galvan belted a third inning home run, but the No. 6 ranked Oregon State softball team let the lead slip away in the seventh as No. 9 ranked Oklahoma rallied for a 4-1 victory. The Sooners (15-0) remained undefeated on the season, scoring four runs in the final inning to earn their sixth straight victory over the Beavers (7-4), dating back to the 1998 season. Three of Oklahoma’s six wins in the streak have come in postseason competition. Galvan went deep for the second time on the year with a shot that Oklahoma centerfielder Amber Spaulding caught while falling through the portable fencing. The ball was ruled a home run as Spaulding tumbled to the ground. With the Beavers clinging to the 1-0 lead, Oklahoma drew a lead-off walk to open the seventh inning and after getting another runner on-base, tied the score when Norrelle Dickson singled through the left-side of the infield. Spaulding then put OU ahead for good when she roped a 2-RBI triple. Senior pitcher Ta'Tyana McElroy (2-3) suffered the loss after entering the game in relief with a runner on-base in the seventh. Natalie Johnson led OSU with a 2-for-4 clip from the plate. Oregon State continues tournament action with an 8:00 PM contest against Virginia.
