LEWISTON, Idaho - Saint Martin’s Nate Baker hit two home runs and drove in six runs as the Saints beat Great Northwest Athletic Conference rival Western Oregon in a non-conference baseball game at the Guardian Plumbing LC-State Invitational on Saturday at Harris Field.

Baker hit a two-run shot in the sixth inning and added a three-run bomb during a five-run SMU eighth inning to seal the victory for the Saints.

Adam Siler added a double, a triple and a pair of RBI as Saint Martin’s improved to 3-11 on the season, while Western Oregon dropped to 4-5.

The Wolves will finish up tournament play on Sunday against host Lewis-Clark State.

Siler had a two-run triple in SMU’s five-run fourth inning, when the Saints took a 7-3 lead.

In the WOU sixth (WOU was the visitor), Boo Christenson had a two-run single to highlight a four-run inning, tying the game at 7-7.

But the Saints added two runs in the bottom half of the inning, and then had the monster five-run eighth to claim the victory.

In addition to the offense by Baker and Siler, the Saints also received three hits from Maki Smith and two hits each from Andrew Salinas and Vince Maughan.

Western Oregon had 12 hits in the game, with two each by Christenson, Aaron Sutton, Tony Jones and Paul Fisher.

Pat Capone gave up 10 hits in six innings of work and four earned runs to get the win on the mound, while Andrew Neisinger came out of the bullpen and was very effective in pitching three scoreless innings and allowing only two hits.

He got the save.
