MONMOUTH - Jacob Mitchell’s follow-up tip-in of a Ryan Schmidt miss at the buzzer gave Western Oregon a 93-91 overtime win over Western Washington on Saturday night at the Physical Education Building.

Mitchell’s bank off the left-hand side capped a wild game that allowed the Wolves to snap a three-game losing streak.

The senior center finished with 32 points and 11 rebounds as the Wolves improved to 9-16 on the season and to 4-10 in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference.

Western Washington fell to 10-14 on the year and they are also 4-10 in conference play.

Mitchell led six WOU players in double figures.

Brad Krivchevsky had 13 points off the bench, Travis Kuhns had 12, Larry Hall and Schmidt had 11 each and Alex Swerzbin had 10.

Lukas Henne led WWU with 26 points, 21 in the second half.

Harold McAllister had 21 points, hitting his first eight shots from the field.

Ira Graham had 17 and Calin Schell added 14.

Western Oregon led by as many as 10 points in the first half as Mitchell had 15 points and seven rebounds before intermission.

McAllister solely held things together for WWU, scoring 15 points in the first 20 minutes hitting all six of his shots.

Outside of McAllister, the Vikings were six of 20 from the field before the break.

But the second half belonged to Vikings.

WWU went on a 11-4 run early after intermission and eventually took a 56-55 lead on a basket by Schell.

WWU would trail only one more time in regulation (70-69), but a Kuhns tip-in tied the contest with 12 second left at 81-81.

The Vikings had the final possession of the game, but couldn’t get a shot off and the two squads headed to overtime.

The two clubs traded baskets in the extra period.

Mitchell tied the game at 91-91 with 45 seconds left, and WWU then worked the clock down for one shot, but never got one off (shot clock violation).

That set up WOU’s final effort, with Mitchell’s buzzer beater.

Western Oregon will wrap up the 2006-07 season next weekend, with Thursday and Saturday games against Saint Martin’s and Seattle University.
