SAN DIEGO - The 25th-ranked University of Oregon softball team came up with four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning and Elmira junior Alicia Cook scattered six hits and struck out three to fuel the Ducks’ 6-0 shutout over the University of San Diego in the Aztec Invitational played at the San Diego State Softball Complex Sunday afternoon.

The Ducks’ 15th-straight win improved their season record to 15-1 as they surpassed the previous school record of 14 wins in a row set during the 2004 season.

Cook, who improved her record to 9-1, did not give up any walks and allowed no more than one base runner in any one inning.

She didn’t allow anyone to advance past first base until the seventh inning when she gave up a leadoff double to Virginia Fritsch to open the final frame.

After pinch runner Celine Pujol advanced to third base on a ground out, she was doubled off third on a fly ball caught by left fielder Blair Williamson to end the game.

Oregon made the most of 10 singles and six stolen bases, with half of those hits occurring during its four-run third inning.

After Suzie Barnes grounded out to the first baseman, Sari-Jane Jenkins beat out a single to second base.

Following her steal of second and a pop out to the shortstop, Neena Bryant drove home Jenkins with a base hit to center field.

Lovena Chaput advanced Bryant to third with a single through the ride side of the infield and proceeded to steal second base to put runners on at second and third.

Ann Marie Topps collected a pair of RBIs with a single and advanced to second on the throw home, before scoring when Kristi Leiter singled to center field.

The Ducks manufactured two more runs in the fourth inning, with Barnes working her way on base with a fielders choice, advancing to second on Jenkins’ second of three singles, picking up a steal of third base and scoring on a throwing error by the Toreros’ catcher.

Jenkins, who had advanced to third base on the steal and the error, was then singled home by Jennifer Salling for Oregon’s final tally.

In addition to Jenkins’ three hits and two runs scored, Topps finished the day 2-2 while driving in two runs and scoring once.

Oregon returns to action Thursday to face Georgia in its first game of the five-team Pepsi Malihini Kipa Aloha Tournament in Honolulu, Hawaii.
