Oregon State Blasts Sacramento State, 18-5

SACRAMENTO - The No. 15 Oregon State University baseball team pounded out a season-high for runs and hits as it routed the Sacramento State Hornets 18-5 Sunday in the final game of the River City Classic.

The win pushed the Beavers record to 11-2 for the season while the Hornets dropped to 2-10.

The game was scoreless until the fourth inning when OSU posted a season-high eight run frame.

Shortstop Darwin Barney provided the big hit with the Beavers’ first grand slam since March 29th, 2005.

Left fielder Mike Lissman opened the scoring for the Beavers with a one-out two-run single.

The Beavers posted 17 hits for the game, with Lissman leading the way with three while Barney and right fielder Braden Wells with two each.

Barney ended the game with a team season-high five RBI.

Junior Daniel Turpen earned his third victory of the season against zero defeats.

The right-hander pitched six innings, allowing seven hits, three earned runs and he struck out five.

The Hornets offense was led by designated hitter Jeff Hannah and first baseman Gabe Jacobo, each with three hits.

Oregon State returns to action Friday at the four-game Texas A&M Classic in College Station.

The Beavers open the tournament at 4:30 PM PST against the No. 24 Aggies.

Texas A&M currently has a 10-game winning streak and an 11-1 overall record.

The two clubs will play twice, with the Beavers also having tilts against New Mexico and St. Louis.
