FRESNO, Calif. - The No. 42-ranked University of Oregon women’s golf team capped the second and final round of the Kitahara Fresno State Invitational in ninth place Tuesday, held at the Copper River Country Club. The Duck women shot a 21-over 309 for the second straight day for a two-round score of 618 and ended 22 strokes back of team champion and host Fresno State (299-297-596). First-day leader UC Irvine followed two strokes back in second place (297-301-598), followed by No. 49 Hawaii (third, 303-296-599), Long Beach State (fourth, 306-299-605) and Kansas State (fifth, 314-295-609). The highest ranked team in the field, No. 5. Denver, slipped ahead of the Ducks Tuesday to finish in eighth place (315-301-616), while the Ducks were 10 strokes better than the other ranked team in the field – No. 41 New Mexico State (14th-tie, 312-316-628). For the Ducks, freshman Kate Hildahl shot a 73 Tuesday – the Ducks’ lowest score of the tourney – to finish in a tie for 32nd place (82-73-155) – also the same final place and overall score posted by senior Therese Wenslow (78-77-155). Duck junior Victoria Wenslow followed in a tie for 41st place (75-81-156), and other Duck entries included sophomore Cathryn Bristow (55th-tie, 80-78-158) and freshman Felicia Eastick (55th-tie, 76-82-158). Overall on the individual leaderboard, Long Beach State’s Kay Hoey climbed six spots Tuesday to win by one stroke (74-72-146) over Colorado’s Lindsay Caljouw (second, 74-73-147), while three players followed in a tie for third place at 148. Looking ahead, the Ducks head to one of the East Coast’s top tournaments, the Pinehurst Challenge, next Mon.-Tue., March 5th-6th on Pinehurst #8 in Pinehurst, N.C. Three weeks later, the Ducks host the Duck Invitational at Shadow Hills Country Club in nearby Junction City, Ore., Mon.-Tue., March 26th-27th.
