Feb-03-2007 08:07Oregon Stymied by Stanford. 26-12Salem-News.com SPORTSWith the loss the Ducks fall to 6-11 overall and 1-7 in the Pac-10.
STANFORD, Calif. - The Ducks' seniors would step it up in their final collegiate dual match against the Stanford Cardinal, but it would not be enough for the Ducks to capture the team victory as they fell 26-12 in a Pac-10 Dual meet held Friday evening at Burnham Pavilion. Senior Justin Pearch would start the night with a victory for the Ducks at 141 lbs., defeating Matt Kim 9-3, and giving the Ducks a 3-0 lead, but the Cardinal grapplers would take the next six matches until the Ducks' other senior took the mat. Chris Dearmon, the Central Point, Oregon native was the only other Duck to get a victory by actually taking the mat as he earned the 9-5 decision over Philip Doerner. The win was the third in a row for Dearmon, who seems to have hit his stride recently. "It is good to see Chris wrestling so well down the stretch in his final season as a Duck," head coach Chuck Kearney said. "He has been a leader for us and we want him to finish out his career with a Pac-10 title. If he continues to wrestle how he has recently, he can do it." The Ducks' freshmen had their chances to score points during many of the matches as Brysen French fell by the score of 3-2 at 184 lbs., Jake McCoy lost his match at 165 lbs., 4-1, and Chris Robinson also fell by only four points, 10-6. The Ducks were given six points in the final match of the night at 133 lbs. as Stanford was forced to forfeit. The Ducks also were forced once again to forfeit the 174 lbs. match. With the loss the Ducks fall to 6-11 overall and 1-7 in the Pac-10. They return to McArthur Court for the Civil War Presented by your Northwest Dodge Dealers on Friday, Feb. 9.
