Whitworth Sinks Linfield, 71-58

SPOKANE, Wash. - Nationally ranked Whitworth controlled the backboards and the scoreboard Friday night, handing the Linfield Wildcats a 71-58 Northwest Conference loss at the Whitworth Fieldhouse.

Linfield dropped to 2-9 in the NWC, 7-13 overall.

Whitworth maintained its narrow grip on first place in the conference, improving to 9-2 in league play and 18-2 overall.

The Pirates, ranked 13th in the most recent D3hoops.com poll, led 40-35 at intermission.

Timperly scored all 11 of his points in the first half, hitting 4 of 6 shots, including a trifecta of 3-pointers to keep the Wildcats close.

Kevin Hasenfus was a force in the paint for the Pirates, gathering nine points and seven rebounds in the first 20 minutes alone. He finished with 11 points and 11 rebounds.

James Jones, the Pirates’ leading scorer, returned from an injury that sidelined him for seven games.

Jones tallied a game-high 15 points, sharing top scoring honors with teammate Ryan Symes.

Bryan Williams contributed 10 points and eight assists to fuel the Whitworth attack.

For the Wildcats, Andy Baldwin came off the bench to nine points and Ryan Chisolm added six points.

The Pirates outrebounded the Wildcats 32-25 and outshot the visitors .533 to .392.

Linfield heads to the southeastern corner of Washington State on Saturday to play Whitman and Walla Walla’s Sherwood Center.

Tipoff is slated for a special 6:00 PM time to enable the Wildcats to get an early departure back to McMinnville.
