EUGENE - Facing their toughest opponent of the young year, the Ducks swept the doubles point but gave up four singles matches to fall, 4-3, to No. 22 Michigan in a dual match held Saturday afternoon at the Student Tennis Center.

The loss was the first defeat of the year for the women's team as they move to 4-1 on the year.

Michigan, who upset No. 17 Vanderbilt last week to open their season, moves to 2-0.

Every doubles match would come down to the wire as the No. 28 ranked pair of Dominika Dieskova and Ana Cecilia Olivos rallied from down 2-5 to win their match at the No. 1 position, 9-7, over Chisako Sugiyama and Kara Delicata.

Monica Hoz de Vila and Anna Powaska were the only pair not forced to the extra game as they picked up the 8-6 victory.

Carmen Seremeta and Claudia Hirt finished off the sweep with a 9-7 victory, breaking Michigan's serve in the final game.

"I thought we played well throughout doubles and it was good to see Dominika (Dieskova) and Ceci (Olivos) rally back to take that match," head coach Paul Reber said. "We didn't have the doubles point in hand at the time and all of the matches were close."

Claudia Hirt was once again dominant in her singles match, besting Allie Shafner 6-1, 6-2.

The Zurich, Switzerland native is now 5-0 on the year and has only dropped eight total games at home this year in three matches.

Carmen Seremeta made the necessary adjustments in her match after she could not win a game in the first set to take her match in the super tiebreak 0-6, 6-2 (8).

At the top of the lineup, Dominika Dieskova fell to Jenny Kuehn, 7-6 (3), 6-1, while Olivos fell to the Big Ten Player of the Week Sugiyama, 6-2, 6-4.
