Super Bowl XLI: Dungy Makes History as Colts Pound Bears, 29-17

Colts head coach Tony Dungy becomes the first African-American head coach to win the Super Bowl.

Not even a steady rain could deny Super Bowl XLI MVP Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts from hoisting the Vince Lombardi Trophy.

MIAMI - Not even a steady rain could deny Super Bowl XLI MVP Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts from hoisting the Vince Lombardi Trophy.

Manning was 25-38-247 yards with one touchdown and one interception, as the Colts blew open a close game in the second half to win Super Bowl XLI 29-17 over the Chicago Bears Sunday.

Indianapolis led 16-14 at halftime in what was a sloppy first half of play for both teams.

Colts running back Dominic Rhodes rushed 21 times for 113 yards and a touchdown.

Indianapolis rookie running back Joseph Addai was brilliant, rushing for 70 yards and catching 10 passes for 66 yards.

This is the second Super Bowl victory for the Colts' franchise, going back to Baltimore (Super Bowl V, 16-13 over Dallas), but the first since moving to Indianapolis in 1984.

Chicago quarterback Rex Grossman couldn’t seem to overcome the rain.

Grossman went 20-28-165 with one touchdown and two interceptions.

The only two bright spots for the Bears was running back Thomas Jones who rushed for 112 yards on just 15 carries, and Devin Hester got the Super Bowl off to a quick start, by becoming the first player to return the opening kickoff for a touchdown.

Hester’s 92 yard jaunt into the endzone was the eighth time in Super Bowl history that a kickoff was returned for a touchdown

Bears backup running back Cedric Benson injured his left knee in the first quarter and was ruled out for the rest of the game.

Colts starting cornerback Nick Harper and right tackle Ryan Diem injured ankles in the first half of the Super Bowl and did not return.

Kelvin Hayden’s 56 yard interception return for a touchdown in the fourth quarter sealed the win for the Colts.

In the previous 40 Super Bowls, it had never, ever rained.
