UCSD Wins Slugfest, Series Against Western Oregon

LA JOLLA, Calif. - UC San Diego pounded out 14 hits and 11 runs against five Western Oregon pitchers, claiming a 14-11 baseball win on Sunday afternoon at Triton Field.

The victory gave the Tritons the series edge in the opening games of the season for both squads.

UC San Diego is now 3-1 on the season, while WOU is 1-3.

Western Oregon will continue a 10-game road swing with a contest at Cal State Monterey Bay on Tuesday.

Matt Cantele had four hits in five trips to the plate, including two doubles and a home run to help power the Triton offense.

Cantele had five RBI, while Chris Franco had three hits and drove in three runs.

Boo Christenson and Paul Fisher had three hits each for the Wolves, and Coubi Jiles hit a home run in the ninth inning, but UCSD had too much offense bruising each of WOU's five pitchers
