PORTLAND - The Portland State Athletics Department has released its 2007 football schedule, featuring the eight-game Big Sky Conference slate, the Southland Conference Champion, regional rival UC Davis and Mountain West Conference opponent San Diego State.

Portland State will play a balanced schedule with five home games, including two in September, two in October and one in November.

The Vikings will open at Southland Champion and playoff participant McNeese State (7-5 in 2006) on Sept. 1st.

The contest is a return game for the 2004 game between the schools in Portland.

The Vikings won that one, 35-14.

UC Davis (6-5) will provide the competition in PSU's home opener at PGE Park.

The non-conference game with the Aggies will be the third in four seasons.

The Vikings won the last meeting, 14-12, at Davis in 2005.

Big Sky Conference play begins on Sept. 15th, also at PGE Park, as the Vikings will take on Sacramento State (4-7, 4-4).

PSU has won seven straight in the series, including a 13-7 season-ending win in Sacramento last year.

Portland State was 6-2 in Big Sky games during 2006.

Portland State's only game against a Football Bowl Subdivision program will be on Sept. 22nd at San Diego State (3-9).

It will be a first-ever meeting between the Vikings and the Aztecs.

PSU played at another Mountain West Conference school last year, New Mexico, and came away with a 17-6 victory.

The Vikings will play their first Big Sky road game on Sept. 29th at Eastern Washington (3-8, 3-5).

It also begins a sequence of alternating road and home games for the remainder of the year.

Northern Arizona (6-5, 5-3) comes to PGE Park on Oct. 6th, as does Weber State (4-7, 3-5) on Oct. 27th and Montana State (8-5, 6-2) on Nov. 10th.

Remaining road games include Idaho State (2-9, 1-7) on Oct. 20th, Montana (12-2, 8-0) on Nov. 3rd and Northern Colorado (1-10, 0-8) on Nov. 17th.

Although the Vikings have a full 11-game schedule, they have an open date on Oct. 13th.

The only school coming to PSU having beaten the Vikings in 2006 is Montana State (14-0).

The Bobcats also figure to be a popular opponent as the 2005 contest in PGE Park drew 10,443 fans and ended on a final-play, 40- yard field goal that gave PSU a 44-41 win.

The Vikings beat both Northern Arizona (34-26) and Weber State (20-10) on the road last year.

Montana was the Big Sky Champion once again in 2006 and reached the Football Championship Subdivision semifinals.

PSU suffered their only 2006 home loss to the Grizzlies, 26-20, and have never won a Big Sky game in Missoula (0-5).

Portland State will make a first-ever trip to Northern Colorado for a Big Sky Conference game.

PSU routed the Bears, 45-3, last season.

Viking football will once again have a 6:05 PM kickoff for home games.

Only two road game times have been set.

They are a 2:05 PM Pacific Time start at Idaho State, and an 11:05 AM Pacific Time kickoff at Montana.
