Corban Women Trounce Cascade, 71-38

PORTLAND - All eleven players scored at least one point led by senior Brianne Carras with 12 points on 6-for-10 shooting from the field, as Corban's women's basketball team earned a wire-to-wire win, 71-38, over the Lady Thunderbirds of Cascade on Friday.

The visiting Warriors came out of the locker room and shot an amazing 68.0% (17-for-25) from the field, en route to building a 15-point lead (39-24).

In the second half, Corban's defense held Cascade to a mere five made field goals on 28 attempts (17.9%).

Meanwhile, the Warriors shot 13-for-33 (39.4%) from the field, including three made shots from beyond the arc.

Carras led a group of six players that scored 8-or-more points, as the senior post player teamed with junior Jessica Steigleman as the only two Warriors in double figures.

Steigleman shot 4-for-8 from the field en route to scoring 11 points, which pushes her streak of 10-or-more points in a game to 17 straight contests.

Along with the duo's combined 23 points, senior Kendall Dionne, senior Tosha Wilson, senior Jessi Norton, and junior Mandy Peterson scored 9, 8, 8, and 8 points respectively.

Dionne led Corban with a team-high 6 rebounds, while Carras, Norton, and junior Katie Dennis grabbed 5 rebounds each.

Corban's starters combined to score 48 points, while the bench provided 23 points with Peterson leading the reserves in scoring.

Dennis, freshman Hillary Sell, and sophomore Laura Santie scored 4 points apiece, while freshman Beth McLam and sophomore Rachel Steigleman added 2 and 1 point respectively.

As a team, Corban shot 30-for-58 (51.7%) from the field, including 5-for-13 (38.5%) from beyond the 3-point line. Meanwhile, Cascade shot 15-for-54 (27.8%) from the field, including 3-for-19 (15.8%) from beyond the arc.

The two teams combined to shoot 9-for-20 (45.0%) from the free throw line, as Corban made 6 shots and Cascade canned a mere 3 shots from the charity stripe.

Cascade was led by Te Awhina Aranui's game-high totals in both points and rebounds with 13 points on 6-for-10 shooting from field and 8 boards, while Jamie Martinez and Lindsay Diaz added 11 and 8 points respectively.

Along the aforementioned trio of Lady Thunderbirds, only five players score points with Ashley Clark and Mary Cotton contributing 2 points each.

With its fifth straight win, Corban improves to 21-6 overall, 12-3 in Cascade Collegiate Conference action.

On the other hand, Cascade drops its fifth straight game to fall to 2-21 overall, 1-14 in CCC play.

The Warriors will play their final regular season road game Saturday night in Portland versus the Knights of Warner Pacific beginning at 5:30 PM.

This will be the final time that fifth-year head coach Dave Bale coaches the Warriors away from the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center during the regular season.
