MONMOUTH - Up by just three points at halftime, Northwest Nazarene outscored Western Oregon 45-28 in the second half to roll to a 71-51 women’s basketball win on Thursday night at the Physical Education Building.

The win improved NNU’s record to 12-9 on the season and to 6-4 in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference.

Western Oregon dropped to 3-18 on the year and to 2-8 in the GNAC.

Western Oregon’s Leada Berkey led all players with 21 points and 12 rebounds.

Kori Seymour was also in double figures with 12 points for the Wolves.

Danielle Dwello led the Crusaders with 17 points and 12 boards, and Janee Olds added 12 points.

Both teams were mostly stone cold in the first half. In fact, there was a stretch of five minutes where neither team scored.

NNU held an eight point lead (19-11), but WOU went on a 10-0 run to take a slight lead before the Crusaders scored twice in the final minute to take a 26-23 margin into the locker room.

But the Crusaders pulled away early in the second half and the hosts never really challenged.

Western Oregon shot just 24 percent from the field in the game and hit only three of 19 three-point attempts.

NNU also won the battle of the boards, 53-36.
