Jan-13-2007 19:35DAYTONA USA Puts Finishing Touches On Daytona 500 Champion's Walk Of FameSalem-News.com SPORTSA special plaque in the Walk of Fame will honor the late Dale Earnhardt and his 1998 Daytona 500 victory.
Daytona Beach, FL - In conjunction with DAYTONA USA's 10th anniversary celebration, "The Official Attraction of NASCAR" put the final touches on the new Daytona 500 Champion's Walk of Fame on Friday. Daytona International Speedway President Robin Braig and DAYTONA USA General Manager Kim Isemann assisted operations personnel in installing the 3x3 cement blocks that showcase the Daytona 500 champion's handprint, right foot and autograph into their final place. During the recent Pepsi 400 Weekend, winning drivers of the Daytona 500 since 1996, the first year of operation for DAYTONA USA, had their hands, right foot and signature immortalized in cement in a special ceremony inside the 60,000-square foot attraction. Daytona 500 champions Jimmie Johnson, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Jeff Gordon, Dale Jarrett, Ward Burton and Michael Waltrip all had the honor of placing their hands, right foot and signature in the famous wet cement. A special plaque in the Walk of Fame will honor the late Dale Earnhardt and his 1998 Daytona 500 victory. Guests at DAYTONA USA will now mill around outside DAYTONA USA, much like the world famous Grauman's Chinese Theatre in Hollywood, and gaze down at the 3x3 cement blocks remembering those historic moments from NASCAR's signature event. Annual handprints, right foot prints and autograph of the Daytona 500 champion will take place each year in a special ceremony.
