Jan-15-2007 17:15Trio of Warriors Eclipse 1,000-Point Mark This SeasonSalem-News.com SPORTSThis season has been different than past ones, as three players have joined the exclusive 1,000-point club in a span of six weeks.
SALEM - Corban senior Jessi Norton became the first player this season to eclipse the 1,000-point plateau for her career when the 5-foot-8 guard notched her 1,000th point at home versus Willamette. The Redmond High School graduate came into the game needing only seven points to become the 9th player in school history to score 1,000-or-more points in her career. Once the final buzzer sounded, Norton had scored 9 points to move into 10th all-time on the career points list at 1,002. Norton has continued to move up the career points chart and currently sits 5th all-time with 1,228 and is a mere two points away from moving into 4th ahead of former Warrior Kristie Brown (1993-97). Twenty-five days later, fellow senior Tosha Wilson joined Norton on the exclusive list as the 10th player in school history when she scored her 1,000th career point in Corban’s victory over conference rival Concordia. With 5:55 remaining in the opening half, Wilson drove down the left side of the floor and converted on a slashing lay-up in the paint for her 1,000th and 1,001st career point. At the same time, the 5-foot-6 point guard became the first-ever member of the 1,000-point, 500-rebound, and 500-assist club in Warrior women’s basketball history. Currently, Wilson sits 8th all-time in career points with 1,046 and is a mere four points away from passing former Warrior Kylie Miller (1997-98, 1999-2002) for 7th all-time. Less than two weeks later, junior Jessica Steigleman joined the senior duo on the elite list when she scored her first points of the night versus Warner Pacific to eclipse the 1,000-point barrier for her career. The 5-foot-10 guard/forward converted a patented running jumper in the paint to establish herself as the 11th player in Corban women's basketball history to record 1,000 points in a career and sits a mere three points away from cracking the top 10 behind former Warrior Aubrey Dickson (1999-2001), who scored 1,018 points in her career. Among the career 1,000-point scorers in women’s basketball history at Corban are Christy Nordstrom (1993-97) with a school-record 1,502 points, Rosey Ball (1994-96, 97-99) with 1,348 points, Cassee Steed (1996-2000) with 1,311 points, Kristie Brown (1993-97) with 1,229 points, Kelsie Piper (1995-97) with 1,130 points, Christy Hansen (1995-99) with 1,117, Kylie Miller (1997-98, 99-2002) with 1,049, and Aubrey Dickson (1999-2001) with 1,018 points.
