Winter Hawks Named to Play in Canada Winter Games

All ten Canadian Provinces and three Territories in Canada will be represented at the games.

PORTLAND - Portland Winter Hawks’ defensemen Ty Ariss and Bo Montgomery have been chosen to play for Team Saskatchewan in the upcoming Canada Winter Games in Whitehorse, Yukon Territory, February 23rd-March 10th.

Men’s hockey only lasts for several days in that span, so Ariss and Montgomery, and any other Winter Hawks named to other provincial teams, will not miss as many WHL games as those dates indicate.

Their travel schedules will be finalized at a later date.

The Canada Winter Games features the best players in Canada with a “hockey age” under 17-years-old divided by Province.

So far, the Saskatchewan Hockey Association is the only province to announce its final rosters.

All ten Canadian Provinces and three Territories in Canada will be represented at the games.

Ariss, from Regina, Saskatchewan, Portland’s 2nd round selection in the 2005 WHL Bantam draft, has played with the Hawks all season.

Montgomery, from Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, originally drafted in the 2nd round of the 2005 WHL Bantam Draft by Lethbridge, was acquired by Portland in exchange for 20-year-old Kyle Bailey in a trade in December.

He was just called up by the Hawks from his home town AAA Midget team in Moose Jaw after the Christmas break and has not looked out of place for a 16-year-old WHL defenseman.

There are two goalies, 7 defensemen and 11 forwards that were named to Team Saskatchewan.

There should be announcements soon for Team BC, Alberta and Manitoba and the Winter Hawks have roster players, and players off their protected list, that could be named to these teams as well.
