BERKELEY, Calif. - Lauren Greif scored a career-high 19 points and was one of four Cal players in double figures as the No. 21 Golden Bears were able to fend off a scrappy Oregon side 65-56 on Saturday afternoon at Haas Pavilion.

Cal improved to 15-4 overall and 6-3 in Pac-10 play while the Ducks fell to 10-8 and 2-6 in the conference.

Carolyn Ganes and Tamika Nurse shared the team-high with 14 points apiece for Oregon. Ganes, a senior post, led all players with nine rebounds.

It addition to Greif, Cal’s All-Pac-10 front court duo of Ashley Walker and Devanei Hampton scored 13 each and Natasha Vital added 11.

Eleanor Haring, Oregon’s leading scorer this season, was plagued by foul trouble throughout the game and finished with two points in 18 minutes before fouling out.

The larger Bears won the rebounding battle 42-30, 14 of which came on the offensive glass. As a result, Cal held a 17-9 edge in second-chance points.

Down by five points at the break, the Ducks began the second half on an 8-3 run to even the score at 32-all with 15:58 to play.

Tied again at 34-34, Greif drained back-to-back three-pointers to put the Bears on top by six with 12:49 left. Oregon refused to let Cal pull away, but failed to come any closer than three points the rest of the way.

Oregon trailed 29-24 at the half, but was able to end the period on a positive note as Taylor Lilley hit a deep three-pointer in the closing seconds.

Nurse and Walker each scored eight points in the first half to lead their respective teams.

Neither team shot particularly well as Oregon made 8-of-26 attempts (30.8 percent) and Cal 9-of-26 (34.6).

Cal used a 13-1 run to overcome an early four-point Oregon lead, turning a 9-5 deficit into an 18-10 advantage at the 7:58 mark.

Civil War week is up next for the Ducks, who play host to Oregon State on Wednesday (7:00 PM) at McArthur Court before traveling to Corvallis to complete the two-game series on Sunday (5:30 PM).
