Whitman Overcomes Poor Shooting Night to Defeat Willamette, 52-41

SALEM - In women's basketball on Saturday, Whitman College defeated Willamette University, 52-41, at Cone Field House.

Whitman led 29-17 at halftime.

The Missionaries held on despite shooting just 23.3% in the second half (7 of 30), including 0 for 5 on 3-pointers.

Whitman made 12 of 14 free throws during the game (9 of 10 in the second half).

Willamette was 5 for 6 at the free throw (3 of 4 in the second half).

Kelsey Krumdieck led Whitman with 12 points.

Katie Patneaude of Whitman was just 3 of 14 from the field, but scored eight points to reach exactly 1,000 points in her career.

She became the 12th WC women's player to reach the 1,000-point mark.

Sara Brooks, Laura Payne and Keilyn Fujioka tied for Willamette's top scoring honors with 10 points each.

Fujioka was 5 of 8 from the field and led the Bearcats with six rebounds.

Whitman upped its record to 10-7, including 5-3 in the Northwest Conference.

Willamette fell to 4-13 overall, 2-6 in the NWC.

The Bearcats next face Puget Sound at home on Friday.

Game time is set for 6:00 PM.
