Oregon State Softball Picked to Finish 4TH in Pac-10

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Oregon State University’s softball team was picked to finish in fourth place in the Pacific-10 Conference for the 2007 season, as was announced Monday in a poll taken from the Pac-10 softball coaches.

The Beavers received 32 points in the voting, while defending national champion University of Arizona was picked to finish first with 47 points and five first place votes.

UCLA was a close second, with 45 points and three first place votes, while Arizona State came in third with 35 points.

Oregon State was one of four Pac-10 teams to reach the NCAA Women’s College World Series during the 2006 campaign and the Beavers earned a share of the Pac-10 title during the 2005 campaign.

The Pac-10 set a record in 2006 with seven teams winning NCAA Regionals – Arizona, Arizona State, California, Oregon State, Stanford, UCLA and Washington all reached the NCAA Super Regional.

The conference’s four Women’s College World Series participants -- Arizona, Arizona State, Oregon State and UCLA -- accounted for half of the tournament field.

The 2007 softball season will get underway on Thursday, Feb. 8th with preseason tournament action.

The Beavers, who return 11 players from last season’s team, including All-Americans Brianne McGowan and Cambria Miranda, open the 2007 campaign at San Diego State on Feb. 8th.
