Jan-23-2007 15:40Oregon, Oregon State Women Meet in Civil War SeriesSalem-News.com SPORTSThe Ducks are 29-5 versus OSU at McArthur Court.
EUGENE - The Ducks and Beavers play twice this week, knocking out the season’s Civil War series in a span of five days. The Civil War is big for obvious reasons, but even more so this time around as the two teams have identical 2-6 Pac-10 records and are tied for seventh place in the conference. Oregon has the better record overall at 10-8, while the Beavers are 7-10. CLIPPED WINGS The Ducks will likely be without the services of SR F/C Jessie Shetters for the remainder of the regular season. Shetters, who led the Ducks and ranked among the top three in rebounds in blocked shots in the Pac-10 this season, was diagnosed with a stress fracture in her lower back on Jan. 17th. She is expected to miss six weeks, which means her earliest possible return could come at the Pac-10 tournament in early March. SERIES VS. OREGON STATE Oregon holds a commanding 53-23 advantage in 76 all-time Civil War meetings with the Beavers. The Ducks are 29-5 versus OSU at McArthur Court, where they have won five straight meetings. Oregon is 21-15 at Gill Coliseum and the two rivals are 3-3 on neutral courts. Last season’s series was a split with the Beavers winning 63-61 in Corvallis and the Ducks prevailing 54-45 in Eugene. IS IT OVER YET? The Ducks just wrapped up a three-game stretch against Top 25 opponents - their first such contests of 2006-07. Based on the current polls, Oregon’s next four games are against non-ranked teams. NURSE ENDS DROUGHT SO G Tamika Nurse connected on her first three-pointer in six games, when she knocked one down early in the first half against Cal on Jan. 20th. Nurse, who hadn’t gone deep since Dec. 30th against BYU, hit a second three-ball later in the game to establish a new career high.
