MONMOUTH - The Western Oregon baseball team, seeking a seventh consecutive conference title and third straight NCAA regional berth, is ranked tenth nationally in the NCAA Division II National Collegiate Baseball Writer’s Association poll, released Wednesday. The Wolves, who finished 40-16 last season and earned the No. 1 seed in the west region tournament, is also ranked second in the NCBWA west region poll. Defending region champ Chico State is first, and the Wildcats are ranked second in the national poll. The Wolves return 13 letterwinners in 2007, including 12 seniors. That group includes the 2006 GNAC Player of the Year Boo Christenson, who hit .427 and had an on-base percentage of .530. Coach Jeremiah Robbins’ team was ranked as high as sixth nationally last year, and finished third in the west region tournament. The Wolves will play a schedule in 2007 that is predominantly road oriented. Robbins’ team will play seven schools from the California Collegiate Athletic Association, all of them away from home. The team kicks off the season with a 10-game bus ride that begins at UC San Diego on Feb. 2nd and ends at Sonoma State on Feb. 10th.
