SEATTLE - Seattle Mariners executive vice president and general manager of baseball operations Bill Bavasi announced on Thursday that the Mariners have signed free agent left-handed pitcher Arthur Rhodes to a Minor League contract.

Rhodes also received an invitation to Major League camp with Seattle.

"Arthur Rhodes is coming to camp with a terrific opportunity to make this team," Bavasi said. "He is a veteran left-handed pitcher with a lot of late-inning experience who could possibly be a factor in the back end of our bullpen."

A native of Waco, Texas, who resides in Baltimore, Md., the 37-year-old Rhodes made his Major League debut in 1991 with the Orioles and spent his entire career in the American League prior to making 55 appearances with the Philadelphia Phillies in 2006.

The Phillies were 37-18 in his 55 appearances.

He made his final appearance of the season on Sept. 9th at Florida, leaving the game with a strained left elbow.
