Beavers Highly Represented at Oregon Sports Awards

There are five finalists for George Pasero Team of the Year Award, including the 2006 Beaver baseball, softball and football teams.

CORVALLIS - Oregon State University coaches, current student-athletes and former student-athletes dominate numerous categories for the 55th annual Oregon Sports Awards scheduled for Sun., Feb. 11th.

Three of the five finalists for the Slats Gill Sportsperson of the Year Award are Beaver coaches.

Pat Casey, who led the 2006 baseball team to the national title, is joined by fellow Beaver coaches Kirk Walker (softball) and Mike Riley (football).

Three of the five finalists for the Bill Hayward Amateur Athlete of the Year award are 2006 Beaver baseball standouts Cole Gillespie, Kevin Gunderson and Jonah Nickerson.

Brianne McGowan from the softball team is one of five candidates for the Hayward Female Athlete of the Year.

NFL All-Pro players and former Beaver standouts Steven Jackson (St. Louis Rams) and Chad Johnson (Cincinnati Bengals) are two of five finalists in consideration for the Harry Glickman Male Professional Athlete of the Year.

Freshman Kelly Dyer of the softball team, a graduate of Churchill High School in Eugene, is a semifinalist for the Johnny Carpenter Female Prep Athlete of the Year.

Roseburg High graduate Blake Keitzman of the baseball team and Jesuit High graduate Seth Tarver of the men’s basketball team are semifinalists for the Johnny Carpenter Male Prep Athlete of the Year.
