Jan-31-2007 13:25Oregon Wrestlers Head South For Dual Meet FridaySalem-News.com SPORTSStanford has the top 125 pounder in the Pac-10.
EUGENE - The Oregon Ducks (6-9 overall, 1-5 Pac-10) head down to the Bay Area to take on UC Davis and Stanford. Oregon will face the Aggies at 11:00 AM and the Cardinal at 5:00 PM on Friday. Scouting the Aggies: Last year, the Ducks split the series of matches in the dual meet held in Davis, as each team won five matches. The difference turned out to be that the Aggies picked up two more major decisions against the Ducks in the 22-19 win. The Aggies are 3-0 in the Pac-10, having defeated CS Fullerton, CS Bakersfield and Stanford. UC Davis features the top-ranked wrestlers in the Pac-10 at 141 lbs. in Derek Moore and at 174 lbs. in Ken Cook. Scouting the Cardinal: Stanford has the top 125 pounder in the Pac-10, but the team seems a bit down, featuring only four other ranked wrestlers in the Pac-10. The Cardinal have only lost one Pac-10 dual match, to the above mentioned Aggies, but only have a 4-5 overall record. They dropped three straight matches earlier in the year in a set of duals that they hosted. Coach Kearney’s Take: “UC Davis is a really good team, but we could have the advantage over them in a few weight classes and we will have to work hard to get those victories.” “We think that we match up well with Stanford and that it will be a good match from start to finish. This one will depend on how well we execute and if we can close out the matches that we need to.” Ranked Ducks: Here’s how the Ducks rank in the Pac-10 (as of Jan. 29th): 125: Ryan Dunn, 4th 133: Joey Lucas 5th 141: Justin Pearch, 3rd 174: Ronnie Lee, 5th 184: Brysen French, 6th 285: Chris Dearmon, 5th Injury Takes Down Lee: The Ducks will be without the services of 174 pounder Ronnie Lee after he was diagonosed with a fractured bone in his leg. The team is hopeful that he will be able to return by the Pac-10 Tounrament at the end of the month
