CORVALLIS - Oregon State catcher Mitch Canham has been named to the Louisville Slugger Preseason All-America Baseball Team, as selected by Collegiate Baseball newspaper.

Canham (Lake Stevens, Wash./Lake Stevens HS), a junior, was a second-team pick.

Canham is coming off a 2006 season in which he helped Oregon State to the national championship and a 50-16 record; the Beavers won the Pacific-10 title and reached the College World Series for the second straight season.

Last year, Canham batted .299 with seven home runs, five triples, 13 doubles, 54 runs batted in and 10 stolen bases; he also threw out 22 of 44 runners attempting to steal against him.

Canham earned All-Pacific-10 honorable mention last season.

Canham has been a two-time Pacific-10 All-Academic selection, and he’s also been named to the District 8 All-Academic team.

OSU opens its 2007 season with a four-game series Jan. 25th-27th at Hawaii-Hilo, with single games each of the first two days at Hilo and a doubleheader on the final day at Kona.

The Beavers begin their home schedule with a three-game series against Evansville on March 8th-10th.
