TUCSON, Ariz. - After more than four weeks off from competition, the Oregon State swim team split its duel meet against the University of Arizona and Northern Arizona University. The Beavers (5-6, 0-3 Pacific-10 Conference) beat NAU 171-123 and fell to the No. 2 Wildcats 97-189. Showing no sings of rust, Kayla Rawlings began 2007 as she finished 2006. Rawlings, who helped the Beavers to a first-place finish at the Husky Invitational, won both the 200 (2:04.57) and 100 Fly (58.28). With the four dual meet wins Rawlings has 10 for the season and 13 in her career. The strong effort by the Beavers began with a third-place finish in the 200 Medley Relay. The team of Brittney Iverson, Felicia Castaneda, Rawlings, and Anna Crandall swam a solid race that set the tone for the rest of the meet. In the following five races, a Beaver picked up at least one dual meet win. Sandy Hong finished third and picked up her sixth dual meet win of the season in the 1,000 Free (10:19.60). Anna Crandall continued her strong freshman season earning a dual meet win in the 200 Free (1:54.41) and Nicole Pressprich notched her second career dual meet win in the 100 Back (1:02.14). Castaneda picked up the first of her two dual meet wins on the day in the 100 Br. (1:05.85) before Rawlings won the 200 Fly by over three seconds. In the second half of the meet Castaneda notched a dual meet win in the 200 Br. (2:23.74) and Hong earned a dual meet win in the 500 Free (5:05.60). The final three events swam belonged to the Beavers. Rawlings won the 100 Fly and freshman Brittney Iverson won the 200 IM (2:08.44) by over three seconds. The Beavers finished the day winning the 400 Free Relay (3:33.44). The team of Anna Crandall, Lisa Chewning, Kayla Rawlings, and Sandy Hong beat NAU’s A relay by over five seconds in the event.
