MONMOUTH - Jake Linton's two free throws gave Saint Martin's its first lead of the second half and gave the hosts a 74-73 win over Western Oregon on Saturday night at the SMU Pavilion. The stunning win improved the Saints record to 4-8 on the season and 1-0 in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference. Western Oregon dropped to 5-8 on the year and 0-2 in GNAC play. SMU had a brief lead in the first half (7-6), but otherwise Western Oregon controlled the lead the rest of the game. The Wolves led by as many as 14 points in the first half before taking a 40-33 lead into the break. They then led the entire second half, although there were five ties. The last deadlock came at the 1:40 mark on Stephon Harris' basket (72-72). With six seconds left, Jacob Mitchell hit one of two free throws to give the Wolves back the lead, but Linton was fouled with just one second remaining, and hit both shots to claim the win. Brendan Campbell led the Saints with 22 points, while Linton added 16. Trevor Dunstan had 12 points and nine rebounds for SMU. Mitchell led the visitors with 22 points and seven rebounds. He hit nine of 12 shots from the field. Dominque DeWeese and Ryan Schmidt added 13 points each. But the Wolves hit just 11 of 19 free throws on the night and hit only six three-pointers. Western Oregon will remain on the road next week, traveling to Seattle Pacific on Thursday..
