MONMOUTH - Seattle Pacific led the entire second half but still had to withstand a inspired Western Oregon upset bid before holding on for 61-57 women's basketball win on Saturday night at the Physical Education Building.

The win improved the Falcons record to 8-4 overall and 2-0 in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference.

Western Oregon dropped to 1-12 on the year and 0-2 in conference play.

Autumn Fielding and Jessie Menkins led the visitors with 13 points each.

WOU's Kori Seymour had 20 points to lead all scorers and Leada Berkey added 17.

Both Wolves hit four of eight three-point attempts.

Although SPU led the entire second half, the Wolves twice tied the game with three-pointers -- one by Seymour and another by Kaila Hawley.

Seymour hit another three-ball with 1:48 remaining to pull the hosts within two points (59-57).

But after the that last basket, WOU would not score again and the Falcons would use two free throws by Jessie Menkins with 11 seconds left to seal the win.

Seattle Pacific led by no more than six points in the first half, and still needed a trey by Menkins at the halftime buzzer to take a 30-29 lead into the break.

The Falcons dominated the boards, outrebounding WOU 41-34--with 19 of those rebounds taken on the offensive end.

Western Oregon hit 10 of 23 three-pointers in the contest.

Western Oregon will host Central Washington next Thursday, and will then travel to Northwest Nazarene on Saturday.
