Jan-09-2007 16:39Corban's Steigleman Named Cascade Collegiate Conference Player of The WeekSalem-News.com SPORTSCorban is currently 13-5 overall this season, including a 5-2 mark in conference play.
SALEM - Corban junior guard Jessica Steigleman was named Cascade Collegiate Conference women's basketball Player of the Week for the week ending on January 6th thanks to a combined 29-point, 27-rebound performance versus a pair of Cascade Collegiate Conference opponents last week, as announced Tuesday by the conference office. Steigleman, a 5-foot-10 guard/forward combo player, helped guide the Warriors to two straight victories against The Evergreen State College and Northwest. Against Evergreen, Steigleman scored 12 points on 5-for-17 shooting from the field and grabbed a game-high 16 rebounds. Steigleman controlled the offensive glass with a game-high 8 boards, while handing out an assist and recording a team-best 3 steals. Twenty-four hours later against Northwest, Steigleman was one of five players that scored in double figures thanks to 17 points on 7-for-16 shooting from the field. Steigleman recorded her second straight double-double thanks to a game-high 11 rebounds, including another eight offensive boards. For the week, Steigleman shot 12-for-33 (36.4%) from the field, 1-for-3 (33.3%) from beyond the 3-point line, and 4-for-5 (80.0%) from the free throw line in helping the Warriors extend their winning streak to three games. Thanks to her two-game performance last week, Steigleman currently sits 19 points away from surpassing the 1,000-point plateau for her career. She will become the 10th player in women's basketball history to eclipse 1,000 points for her career and will rank 10th on the all-time career scoring list. Steigleman will join fellow teammates and seniors Jessi Norton and Tosha Wilson as the newest members of the 1,000-point club as a Warrior, as the duo surpassed 1,000 points for their respective careers earlier this season. This is the third time in her career that Steigleman has been named conference Player of the Week and second honor this season for a member of Corban's women's basketball team. Corban is currently 13-5 overall this season, including a 5-2 mark in conference play. The Warriors have won eight out of their last nine contests, including putting together a five and three-game winning streak during the months of December and January.
