Thompson, Bears Stifle Emeralds

YAKIMA, Wash. - Bryant Thompson and two relievers combined on a three-hitter as Yakima edged visiting Eugene, 2-1, on Friday.

Thompson (2-3) allowed one run on two hits and three walks while striking out six over six innings to lower his ERA to 3.93.

Omar Arif gave up one hit in two scoreless frames and William Spottiswood fanned one in a perfect ninth for his third save.

Ramon Ramirez delivered an RBI single and Julio Parra stroked a run-scoring double in the fourth for the Bears (12-19).

Eugene starter Matthew Latos (0-1) surrendered both runs on five hits and a walk while striking out two in four innings.

Luis Durango drove in the lone run for the Emeralds (20-11) with a groundout in the fifth.
