Volcanoes Take Down Bears, 9-6

KEIZER, Ore. - Clayton Conner plated a career-high five runs, but it wasn't enough as visiting Yakima fell to Salem-Keizer, 9-6, on Sunday.

Conner lifted a sacrifice fly in the first inning and cranked a grand slam in the third for his third homer.

The 20-year-old third baseman has 16 RBIs in his last 10 games after driving in four runs in his first 16 games this season. He is batting at a .344 clip for the Bears (13-20).

Bruce Edwards went 4-for-5 with two RBIs and Andrew Davis homered and drove in three runs for the Volcanoes (27-6).

Salem-Keizer reliever Ricky Bauer (2-0) yielded three hits over 4 1/3 scoreless frames with five strikeouts.

Steven Edlefsen allowed a hit in the final two innings for his second save. Starter Wilmin Rodriguez gave up six runs -- five earned -- on five hits and two walks, striking out three in 2 1/3 innings.

Konrad Schmidt went 2-for-3 with a solo homer, his second, in the third. Mark Hallberg went 3-for-5 with a run scored for Yakima.

Bears reliever Alvaro Ortega (0-1) gave up four runs -- three earned -- on six hits in four innings with a strikeout and a walk.
