MILWAUKEE, WI - The Milwaukee Bucks have re-signed free agent guard Mo Williams to a multi-year contract, General Manager Larry Harris announced Tuesday.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“This is a very big day for Mo, his family and for the Milwaukee Bucks,” said Harris. “Mo has worked extremely hard to get to this point and we’re thrilled to have him in a Bucks uniform for many years to come. We see him as a key piece of what we’re trying to accomplish in Milwaukee, and that’s to return to the playoffs and ultimately win an NBA championship.”

Williams, 24, is coming off of his best statistical NBA season.

He averaged career-highs in points (17.3), rebounds (4.8) and assists (6.1) in 68 games during the 2006-07 campaign.

He led the team in assists per game (ranked 14th in the NBA), was 2nd in scoring average and 5th in rebounds per game.

He became the first Buck to average at least 17.0 points and 6.0 assists in at least 50 games since San Cassell did it in 2001-02. His 44.6 FG% and 85.5 FT% were also career highs.

Williams also notched his first career triple-double last season, posting 19 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists on 12/20/06 against Miami.

The feat helped him earn Eastern Conference Player of the Week honors during a week in which he averaged 25.7 points, 8.7 rebounds and 6.7 assists.

In three seasons with the Bucks, the 6-1, 185-lb guard has appeared in 206 games and logged averages of 13.1 points, 5.5 assists and 3.5 rebounds while shooting 43.8% from the field and 85.2% from the free throw line.

“I’m really glad this worked out for all parties,” said Head Coach Larry Krystkowiak. “Mo has a coaching staff here that wants to get him to that next level and we’re all going to work hard to see that he continues to develop into the player he wants to be. We’re eager to move forward knowing that he’ll be a part of this team.”

Drafted out of Alabama by the Utah Jazz in the 2nd round of the 2003 NBA Draft (47th overall), Williams spent his rookie season with the Jazz before signing with the Bucks on 8/5/04. He owns career averages of 11.3 points, 4.6 assists and 3.0 rebounds in 263 NBA games.

Williams has been an active presence in the Milwaukee community during his three seasons in Milwaukee.

Among his list of contributions, Williams is a spokesman for the team’s “Breakfast With The Bucks” initiative, which strives to teach kids to eat healthy, and his own “Mo’s Making Money Matter” program, which encourages kids to learn the value of saving money.

He also partnered with the Boys and Girls Club and area charitable agencies to sponsor the Holiday Giving Tree last December, a program designed to give holiday gifts to area families in need.
