Oregon State Picked Fifth in Pac-10 Media Poll

The Beavers are coming off a 10-4 season, the second most successful season in the program’s 109-year history.

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Oregon State was picked to finish fifth in the 2007 Pacific-10 Conference preseason poll of West Coast media members who regularly cover the league, the conference announced Thursday.

Four-time defending Pac-10 champion USC is a unanimous selection to repeat as conference champion for the fifth year in a row.

The Pac-10 preseason media poll has correctly predicted the conference champion seven years in a row and has done so overall 24 out of 46 years.

The Beavers are coming off a 10-4 season, the second most successful season in the program’s 109-year history including a thrilling 39-38 victory over Missouri in the Brut Sun Bowl.

OSU, which returns 17 starters from the 2006 squad will be led by a growing list of preseason awards candidates including senior tailback Yvenson Bernard (Maxwell Award), senior center Kyle DeVan (Rimington Trophy), senior linebacker Derrick Doggett (Bronko Nagurski Award), senior defensive end Jeff Van Orsow (Lott Trophy), and junior offensive guard Jeremy Perry (Outland and Lombardi Awards).

Oregon State opens practice for the 2007 season Aug. 3 as the Beavers prepare for the season opener Thurs., Aug. 30 against the Utah Utes at Reser Stadium.

The game will be televised live by FSN Northwest beginning at 7 p.m.
