Volcanoes Slam Bears, 14-9

KEIZER, Ore. - Shane Jordan went 3-for-4 with a grand slam and three runs scored as Salem-Keizer defeated visiting Yakima, 14-9, on Wednesday.

Jordan belted his third home run in the third inning as the Volcanoes (30-6) jumped out to a 10-1 lead.

Salem-Keizer pounded out 16 hits en route to their fifth straight win.

Chad Rothford went 3-for-5 with three RBIs.

Brock Bond chipped in three hits and three runs, and Matthew Downs and Bruce Edwards drove in two runs apiece.

Volcanoes reliever Waldis Joaquin (1-0) picked up the win after scattering three hits in 2 2/3 innings.

Starter Daryl Maday gave up the first earned runs of his professional career during his first start.

The 21-year-old right-hander was charged with four runs on six hits and three walks in 4 1/3 innings.

Maday tossed 21 1/3 innings over seven outings before giving up an unearned run. He is 3-1 with a 1.40 ERA.

Clayton Conner with 3-for-5 with RBI singles in the first and fifth for the Bears (13-23), who have lost four consecutive games.

Konrad Schmidt ripped a two-run homer, his third, in the eighth and Mark Hallberg followed with a three-run homer, his third, four batters later.

Bears starter Bryant Thompson (2-4) was tagged for nine runs on 10 hits and two walls in two-plus innings.

Ian Harrington surrendered five runs -- three earned -- on six hits with two strikeouts and two walks in 3 1/3 innings.
